Andrea’s been training at SB Fitness for a while now. Like most girls, coming to the gym was a daunting task, but she understood that in order to Run The World (she’s fond of some Beyonce from time to time) she needed to face her fears head on. Here’s what she had to say about her experience thus far:
What reservations did you have before joining?
“I was intimidated by the gym!”
What were your goals when you started?
“I was worried about my size, weight and fitness levels. I felt self-conscious and was very unhappy with my appearance. “
What fears have you overcome?
“I’m not afraid of training and lifting weights anymore. Even though I’m not where I want to be I’m getting closer!”
Did you ever imagine coming this far?
“No, I thought that the 3 years I neglected my body meant that’s how I would be forever. I didn’t think I could get my body back or lift as heavy as I can now.”
What would you say to someone on the fence about starting their journey?
“Try it! You’ll be amazed how easy it is when you get into routine. The whole gym is a supportive environment, with like minded people all working towards their own goals. I’ve never liked conventional gyms, but this type of small group training is friendly and fun, and very effective”
What are you still struggling with?
“Food guilt. I can go 4 weeks clean, like going to Dun Laoghaire and not getting an ice cream clean, but then when I relax the constraints I have all the guilt, and the FEAR that I’m going to put all the weight back on!”
Sum it all up in word….
“Transformative. My whole outlook on health and fitness has changed. My perception of myself and my body has changed for the better. I sleep better, am more alert in work and much happier in my own skin.”
If you walked into the gym now and saw how heavy she can lift, how hard she can push and how little she complains, you would never think she was once intimidated by the weights! She’s going strong and on the count down to a brides maid dress and day of photos that would scare the bravest of gals. I have no doubt in my mind that she’ll hit her goal by time it roles around!
